Mental health care drugs represent as much as a quarter of overall prescription drug costs within state Medicaid programs. Recent innovations in mental health medications have positively impacted the treatment of mental health patients. New generation drugs include antipsychotics such as Zyprexa and Risperdal, as well as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRls), such as Prozac, Zoloft, and Lexapro, which are commonly used to treat depression and other mental disorders.
